I thought that the first section of Graveyard Girl was very sad. Eli has lost his mother, his father, and now might lose his little sister! On the other hand, it was very interesting to read about Yellow Fever, especially since the story takes place in Memphis. I would be very interested in visting Elmwood Cemetery after reading this book.

While I was reading the first chapter of Graveyard Girl, I thought it was very sad and everyone in the book will die from yellow fever. Eli's father, Thomas, has bought two graves. One is for Eli's mother and the other one is for Molly. Eli says Molly will not die. Eli will be left alone if Molly dies, because his mother died and his father caught a train and left to a safe location.

In the book graveyard girl! The main character is a young lady named grace she is the care taker on Elmwood Cematary! The graveyard girl as the call her would ring the bell in remembrance of everyone who died in the epidemic! The other main caracter was Eli! He lost his mother and sister and after all the death his dad kinda went insane and left him with 2 paid for graves and left!A nurse comes to see him and said she saw a man like his father hopping on a train going far far west! So far this book is great!

It has been very sad reading the first part of the book, GRAVEYARD GIRL, by Anna Myers. Many people in Memphis die from the Yellow Fever Epidemic. Over 2,000 Memphians became sick with the fever in the year 1873; when Eli had it. About 25,000 residents fled the city within two weeks. The book takes place in 1878, several years later, and things have only gotten worse. Eli had been nurtured and cared for by his mother when he had the fever and now years later, while he is only twelve, he takes care of his mother until she dies. Eli loses both of his Irish parents; his mother to yellow fever and his "da" to heartbreak. After his sister Molly dies, Eli convinces himself that he is just like his father; unable to be counted on and one who cares only for himself. When Eli meets Grace, the Graveyard Girl, and Addie, an abandoned six year old who is very much like his own sister, his thoughts about himself, the fever, and Memphis just might change. I have enjoyed reading this book so far and I cannot wait to see what happens next.

My opinion on this book so far is that it has been depressing even in the first two chapters. I thought it was bad that the dad didn't care that the daughter was dying. Did you know that they really did "bleed" people because they believed the disease was in the blood only and it would cure them. Instead of making them better it made them worse because of the amount of blood loss. Also, when the nurses smoked, that actually killed their lungs and others causing them to die.

When i first start reading graveyard girl it seem so depressing, becuase everyone had yellow fever and they were dying. The main charter Eli. He has to take care of his sister and mother they have yellow fever. His father thomas doesn't care about them so when he heard they had yellow fever he just bought two graves. Eli was mad at him because he didn't have any hope. Eli did all the work.It came out to be his mother died and his little sister died too. Eli and his father was so sad.

Eli, a thirteen year old in Memphis, is all alone. His pa left him, his ma died, and his little sister died. The only choices left for him is is living in a orphan house or to live with the graveyard girl. When he was working, he met a little girl that reminded him of his sister molly. The little girl's name was Addie. She claimed that her dead mother came to her to tell her to go to the graveyard girl (grace). Grace is too busy to take care of Addie. So, Eli has to take care of Addie........

In the book the dad leaves to get away from all the deaths. I think it was wrong for him to leave his son and is dying daughter. He new his daughter was going to die. Now Eli, his son, is sad that his dad left, his mom and sister died. Eli ceeps thinking about his mom, dad, and sister. He is so sad about his sister death. Now he has met the Graveyard Girl and a little girl named Addie. He is spending time with them now. It will be interesting to see what will happen next.

This book is truly sad, the way people are always dying. When Eli's father was so depressing when he is usually so happy. Eli's father was really did not act the way he should have when he was dying, he put Eli in the postion to live without him and go to the cemetary and bury his little sister, Molly, in which a little girl Addie reminds him of. Addie has lost her mother and father and says that in her sleep her mother comes back. Eli doesn't believe her and Eli doesn't like her. THe Graveyard Girl, Grace is sweet to her and cares for her and Eli, her father is the care taker of Elmwood Cemetary and is very weak. This book is very good and sad, I'm enjoying it very much.

In chapter 3, I do not understand how Grace could not be acclimated, but she still hasn't gotten Yellow Fever?
Since Grace is always near the bodies that are dead from Yellow Fever. Her dad just had it and how did she not get it from him? Grace is very different in the graveyard than she is in her house.

The father of Eli was acting very drpressed when Eli's mother died. I understand that his dad would be dressed but I wouldn't go up to a little girl and say she is going to die! The people who died in his family were his dad, mom, and sister!

In the Graveyard Girl I thought it was really sad. Eli's mom and sister died. His dad doesn't even care. Eli meets the Graveyard Girl (Grace). She helps people get over deaths. Eli met 1 little girl that looked like Molly his sister, and he hated that. The Graveyard Girl said she would help the little girl get over the death of her mom and dad. The Graveyard girl siad Eli would help her get over it too. He wondered why the Graveyard Girl dragged him into it.This book is really good, even though I don't like reading about deaths.

I thought the book was so sad at the beggining when Ma and Molly died! I can't beleive Da left him all alone to watch his sister, Molly, dye! After Eli's heart is broken I think it is so sweet he wants to be there to bury his sister! When he met Grace I could easily picture her ringing the bell with al of her weight. I also think it is cool that Addie looks so much like Molly. Why is Eli trying to have no emotions! I think if he were more like Addie things would go much better!

I don't understand why the Father would by a coffin for molly if she hadn't died yet. She could have suprised everyone and started feeling 100% better. I feel sorry for Eli his mom died, his sister, and his dad is acting strange. I think that he likes grace because he said that for some weird reason he could not get made at her. I think that he is not going to travel he is going to stay at elmwood because he gets attached to grace. Then his father is going to come looking for him .

In chapters 5-8 of Graveyard Girl, Eli continues to try and hide his emotions. He is in Addie's house and after taking a bath and getting in bed he hears two voices from Addie's room. Later he still doesn't believe that Addie talks to her mom! The next day Addie accidentaly tells him about a treasure. After she falls asleep again he looks at it. He really wants a broach butdecides not to take it. When Addie gets up they go to Elmwood cemetary. He decides he will go west without telling Garce or Addie. He ran through the rain but stopped and hid for a while. He finaly came out and Grace told him that she had yellow fever. With this he walked off into the rain and decided he wouldn't come back.

While i was reading the book i was so sad that some people have yellow fever and some who had it they died. Eli's father left him. Why did he leave him? Why does Eli pick on Addie? If Molly dies then Eli will be left alone.

In chapters 5-8....... In these chapters Eli forgets about going west soon after he meets a young girl named Addie! She has lost both of her parents! All of her maids and servants and nannies die and they leave her in the big house all by herself! Addie's father was a large plantation owner in pinchgut! She(addie)believes that her late mother is talking to her at night! She told her one that there is treasure and money buried under the roses in the grarden! When she tells Eli that he sneaks out and digs up the treasure and is ploting to steal a brooch and leave Addie at Elmwood at day break! IN his mind he hears his moms voice asking him why are you stealing from a little defensless LIttle child! He keeps making excuses but finally he decided just to put it back! Just in time he finished re-burying the box when Addie starts calling his name! These are great chapters!

In the book Graveyard Girl written by Anna Myers, Eli is a boy in Memphis during the outbreak of yellow fever. His mother died of yellow fever and his little sister, Molly, is sick with the fever. His father has lost all hope that Molly will live, so without telling Eli where he is going, he hops on a train and leaves Eli. Molly then dies of the sickness and Eli is left all alone. He goes to Molly's burying and meets a strange girl named grace, otherwise known as Graveyard Girl.He also meets a young girl named Addie who he must take care of. I really liked chapters 1-4!!!!

In chapters 1-4 Eli experiences a lot in just two days. His mother and his little sister dies of yellow fever. To him, all the spirit is dead in his dad. His dad abandoned him. He now is staying with the grveyard girl, named grace. When a little girl named Addie comes to Elmwood Cemetery, the graveyard girl expects him to take care of her. He does not like Addie. Addie's mother died. She is an orphan. She says that her mother talks to her at night. I think it is very sad that everyone is dying and that Memphis is almost dead in the book.

Poor Eli, his father leaving him, ma dead, and Molly dead. These things have all impacted on this poor 12 year olds life. He isnt as kind as he was to poor Molly when she was sick. Why did his father want to run away from the sadness instead of facing it? Poor Eli,the sad memory when Addie walks up to him and asks " why not cry," the big brown eyes just like Molly, and when they were walking home the way she grabbed his hand like Molly did.In my opinion a boy and a girl dont need to go through this at such young ages. It helps though when graveyard girl, Grace, helps them with meals and with her kind loving heart! I dont know what Eli or Addie would do without her! It is very scarey when Addie talks about how her mother that has died comes into her room at night. Addie is a little girl about 6 or 7 will curley blonde hair, big brown eyes, and very wealthy. ELi imagines Molly looking just like that. Nurse Tylor thinks that smoking her pipe prevents yellow fever. How weird!!!!!!!

When I was reading the first chapter is was very sad. Eli's mother had died and now Molly is sick with the yellow fever too. His father, Thomas left because he was depressed because Eli and Molly's mother died and he did not want to see Molly die too. When Eli went to Elmwood Cemetery and saw the graveyard girl and her name was Grace and she was born in Elmwood Cemetery. Grace and Eli have to take care of Addie.

I thought the first part of chapters 1-4 were so sad! Eli had his Ma and Molly die! I could tell that having Molly die was sad, but Thomas leaving him was too much for me to handle! I mean, who leaves their child all alone?!?! Grace, at the beginning, sounded dull and boring, but now she and Eli have to take care of Addie! Poor Addie! Her Parents have died also! Memphis sounds sad and lonely in this time! I would NOT like to have yellow fever! It's good that we have a vacine!

It seems like Grace and Addie are on one side and aginst Eli! When Eli walks into the chapel to hide from the girls, I wonder why the two men coming to stack the coffins did not see or hear Eli! I don't know about you all but i have never heard of a boy be that quiet!I think Eli and Grace should get married! Oh, one more thing! I read that grace's dad has the fever, how does he not die? Grace is spending alot of time with Eli! When would Grace have time to care for her father?

I thought that the very first part of Graveyard Girl was extrememly sad! I thought that it got a lot better after Eli's mother and his sister died. After they die, he meets the Graveyard Girl. The Graveyard Girl turns out to be Grace and Grace is a very nice girl. Grace works at the cemetery as the bell ringer for when someone dies. Eli met a girl named Addie. Addie is a nice girl, but she can get a little sassy! Addie's parents died and all of their servents too. Addie lives in a really big house called, The Carlile House. I think this book is good and also sad.

I think Eli was being cruel to Addie when he took her to the orphan asylum after Addie just said she didn't want to go there! I'm glad Addie ran away. I think that made Eli finlay come to his senses. I wonder who the voice was that came to him telling Eli that Addie went to Pinchgut. I think Addie is very faithful to stay with Eli when she might die. When they finaly got back to the graveyard I was happy Grace is still alive. Though soon I figured out Grace wouldn't live long, the fever got her too. I was so depressed about that! I think it's sweet that in the end Eli became part of Addie's family. That was a great book!

I dont really undderstand why this fever was so deadly. More than 1,000 people ha ve died from that disease. That is unbelievable. As i read into the next chapters i found out that Molly dies, and Eli's father leaves him. Now ELi is just a 14 year old boy left alone. What i didnt understand is why Eli's dad didnt cry or care when about the deaths. I think it would be cool, to go to Elmwood cemetary! I cant wait to read more of graveyard girl!

These first four chapters have been really sad. Eli's dad has been acting really strange. Why did he leave Eli? Why wasn't he sad about his wifes death? I think that he is trying to get his mind off of his wife dying and that is why he doesn't really care about his family anymore. i really hope that Grace will not die of yellow fever. I have a feeling that Eli is going to stay in Memphis with Grace. This book is pretty sad so far, but I think it will have a great ending.

This book is really sad even on the first chapter. For some reason I think that Grace is dead because when she her face has no expression on her face when she rings the bell and with a bell like that you usally go up and down and it is hard for your face to not move when you ring that big bell. I also wonder how Eli did't mind when he agreed to sleep near the graves that must be scary!!!
I feel so sorry for eli his life is so hard now that his family is gone.

In the book graveyard girl, there it is a very sad time for everyone in Memphis. It starts out as Eli lost his mother and his sister to yellow fever, and his dad left him because he was so sad. Eli went to Elmwood Cemetery to watch his mother and sister being burried, and he met the Graveyard Girl who gave him food and a place to sleep. Next, Billy meets this little girl about Molly's size who lost her mom and dad to yellow fever too. Her name is Addie and she has no one to watch over her, she used to have a butler but she died to. So the Graveyard Girl starts to feel bad for Addie and told her that Eli would stay with her, and he did. I really enjoy reading this book, even though it is incredibly sad. Olivia O'keefe

The first four Graveyard Girl chapters were very sad, being that Eli loses all his family members in one way or another, but I think that it's even sadder that Eli rejects Addie. The poor thing must think that no one loves her any more...
She is a bit crazy though, thinking that her mom comes to her at night, but somehow I'm inclined to believe her...

I think that these first few chapters are kind of sad because a lot of people are dying and are already dead. I feel bad for Eli because he lost his whole family. He seems to not really care that he is alone. I think it is very sad that the Yellow Fever had come to Memphis and that so many people died from it. I like how this book is set in Memphis since that is where we are from.

Well, when I first got the book I thought Grace was going to be a gloomy little girl, but she was actually quite normal. Something I found funny about this book is that if Addie reminded Eli of Molly you would think he would of been nicer to her. He was probably scaring the little girl because all she wanted to do is see the graveyard girl and Eli was being rude and not letting Addie talk to Grace. Even if Eli didn't want to think of Molly there was no reason to take out on that poor little girl because she looked like Molly. I feel a little bad for Molly.

I was almost crying when I read the first few chapters of Graveyard girl! It is just so sad! Almost everyone has died except a few people. Also, I think that it was wrong for Eli's dad to just abandon Eli. If I were a parent I would never do that, even if the yellow fever was going around. All that Eli can really depend on is being with Grace and living with Addie. When I read the chapter when Addie came up to Eli while Eli was laying between his mother and sister, Addie's, grave, I thought that it was probably depressing for Eli to see a girl that looked close to identical to his dead little sister. It must have been very hard for Eli. I predict that the dreams that Addie was having sbout her mother and the graveyard girl mean something and that the graveyard girl will somehow help Addie. Now, I am curious to read on to the next chapters...

In the book Graveyard Girl it talks about the yellow fever. The book has a lot of deaths and it is really depressing. In the book there is a boy named Eli and he has a younger sister, a father, and a mother. In the story his mother and sister die. He was hoping that his sister wouldn’t because his mom just died. When someone dies they put out a sigh that someone needs a coffin. After the nurse comes his sister passes away and he was very sad. When they came to pick up the coffin he asked if he could ride with them to see if he could see her be buried. They let him ride in the care but when they got there they saw the graveyard girl. He was amazed when he saw the graveyard girl. After he got to know her, she told him he could stay in the chapel if it rains. She gave him food and a place to stay to me that is a nice graveyard girl. Soon after he ate this girl came he never new her but he said she looked a lot like his younger sister. After she begged him to find the graveyard girl she was standing right behind them. She told both of them what was going on and she need assistance. Then they followed her to her house. The End

I thought that those chapters were really sad. I hopefully will never go throw what Eli is going through now. One reason I feel bad for him is because his father was like running away from the sickness. THe other reason is because all of his family is dead, (his father ran away.) I like Graveyard Girl because she is unusual and interesting. I think that it broke my heart when the little girl named, Abby, went up to Eli and was alone too. At the beginning there were a lot of deaths and still more to come. Eli has lost his mom, sister, and dad. His dad did not die however he left Eli. Eli met the Graveyard Girl, Grace, when he went to his sister’s burial. At first I thought Grace was shy, not talkative, and gloomy. Now I know I did not have the right impression. Grace is a caring, thoughtful, inviting girl. While lying near his sisters and mothers graves, Eli ran into Addie. Addie is an independent young lady who has also last her mom and dad. Addie is wealthier than Eli and Eli has the impression that she is spoiled rotten. Addie’s mom comes to visit her in Addie’s bed room each night witch is when Addie’s mom told her the Graveyard Girl could help. Addie’s mom was not specific with what the Graveyard Girl could help with but we soon figured out that it was so Addie would be taken care of. Grace suggested Eli go with Addie to her home so Addie would not be alone and Eli would have a roof on his head. Eli still believes that there is no reason he should live for everyone is dying of the fever. Addie lets him know there will be no talk of him dying in her house because her mother wouldn’t like to hear that kind of talk. We also learn Addie doesn’t like him saying that because she says “Besides, you matter to me, Eli. You matter a big bunch to me.”

Eli Mahooney lost his mom and little sister. Technically he lost his dad also because Thomas left Memphis to get away from the fever.
Addie lost both of her parents and her servant. "Graveyard Girl", she rings the graveyard bell for each and every deseased that comes to Elmwood Cemetery. She has to take carer of a sick father and take care of the cemetery all at the same time. Now she has a new person to cook and provide housing for.

In the end, bith Eli's mom and sister Molly dies, and Thomas, Eli's dad, had gotten on a train and left Eli all alone with nobody. To me that sounded pretty sad or pathetic as a grown man to leave his son all alone in Memphis Tennessee.

I think that Eli's father had no hope, and he might have thought that he or Eli would catch the fever. Many of the kids in this book are homeless, and have no place to go. Who will take care of them? How will they survive? These are questions i would like to know later on in the book.

When I was reading Chapter one of Graveyard girl i realized that this book is going to be very sad and depressing because on the 1st page Eli's mom died and then after that so does his siter. His dad left him because he wanted to get away from all of the deaths going on in Memphis and he was very sad. I have been to Elmwood Cemetery in October and it has a ton of people in it that have died from yellow fever. When Eli goes to Elmwood he meets Grace. (Graveyard girl) and Addie. He stays with them. Maybe Eli will stop thinking about his mother, siter (Molly), and father.

WHo is going to take care of the children? How will they live? WIll they find a cure for the fever? THese are questions i would like to be answered throughout the book.

In chapters 5-7 Eli tries to take care of Addie a young girl who lost everyone she knew to the fever. Addie believes that at night she is being visited by her deceased mother. Eli hears her mother talking, but believes Addie is just faking voices. This book is so good so far( but its so sad)!!!!!!!

In the book Graveyard Girl there is a yellow fever going around and many people have died from it. Eli, of the main charecters, unfrotunatley has caught the yellow fever all except him and his father. Eli is left alone with his sister because his dad left ona train out of town and his mather was terribly sick adn died with the yellow fever. Eli was hoping that we would be left alone, but in this story that was the case. Eli was the only one left his sister had passed away. On his way to his sister's funeral, he meets one of the girls that would change his life forever. This was the Graveyard Girl or Grace. She was in Memphis to help her father who had the yellow fever. Eli apperintly was not the only one who was left alone, one of Grace's friends Addie was also left alone with no one left to be with. I am interested to find out what happens out next in this book and enjoy reading this.

I think Gravyard Girl is great so far. I think is it sort of depressing at the beginning of the book when his dad runs away. I think that Eli has a crush on Grace. When Addie comes along in the book, I really think that Eli should treat her well. She looks like his sister and it might make him fell better. All in all this book has been good.

Eli wanted to leave Memphis. In chapter 6 when he looked under the rosebush to see the treasure he found a brooch he liked and it meant a lot to him. Eli keeps dreaming his mom is looking at him taking the brooch and he really wanted to respect his mom and he did not take the brooch. When Addie was in her room her mother said that Eli will live at her house and he will be a brother. Eli had missed Molly and his mother very much.Eli was remembering a song that reminded him.

WHen they enter the house ELi is amazed!!!! He has never seen anything like Addie's house!!!!!!! It is so freaky when Addie's mom comes and talks to her at night.ELi then has a dream about his mom sitting in a chair with Molly on her lap. It ends up to be Addie's mom from a portrait in the dinning room. ELi wakes early and goes to find a treasure that Addie's mom tells Addie about. ZHEZ finds a really pretty brooch that he wants really badly, but he hears his mother's voice saying dont do it. He hears Addie's voice and he quickly barries it back. they go to the graveyard. ELi really wants to head West, but for some reason he feels he cant.

In chapters 5-8 a lot of things happened. First, Eli and Addie are at her house and Eli is watching over her for the night. Eli hears two people talking in Addie's room and goes to check on her, when he walks in he finds Addie propped up in bed talking. He was talking to her and she jumped up to the window and screams, Mommy come back! Eli then goes back to sleep and hears someone singing from the music room. Then Eli went out to the rosebush in the garden and dug for this treasure that Addie told him her mother had buried in case she needed money, it turned out to be a box filled with jewelry. Next, Eli found out that McLemore's helper had died from the fever, they are visiting Grace more and more everyday too. Eli is also considering leaving Memphis but ends up staying. I love the book Graveyard Girl!

I like Graveyard Girl so much it’s just something’s confuses me. If Eli has no family left why does he act like he hates everything epically people? He should be nicer to everybody it’s not like there’re trying to hurt him. Addie and Grace are just so nice to everybody and all he does is sit around and complain. I feel sorry for poor Addie she lost her mom, dad, and he aunt hasn’t come. She’s only six and she claims she can see her dead mother in her room. The only person she has to with is Eli and he keeps saying he’s going to leave. Poor little Addie!!!

I think that the second section of Graveyard Girl is very good. I am very glad that Eli doesn't take the broach from the treasure and I am also gald that Grace, Addie, and Eli are getting along better. I was very suprised that Eli and Grace could see Addie's mother in the cemetery! That scared me a little. I almost cried when I read that Grace might have Yellow Fever! I hope she doesn't have it. That would be so sad!

I thought that it was so sad when Eli's dad left him. Eli has lost his mother and little sister, molly, and he is all alone. Eli meets the grave yard girl, Grace, and Sophie and is so mean to both of them. Eli would not even hold Sophie’s hand while crossing the street. He told her that there was no need to hold hands because every thing in Memphis was dead including him. I am looking forward to reading more of this book and finding out more about Memphis history!

in this book there are really sad parts. it is so sad that now Eli is basicly and orphan because his sister died, his mom died, and now his dad caught a train and tried to escape from the sickness. now Eli is staying with the GraveYard Girl(grace) and this other little girl named Addie. Addie's mom died too. Addie said that when she goes to bed her mom talks to her and Eli doesn't believe her.Eli thinkls that the Graveyard Girl used to be very sweet and nice but, now that Addie is with them and they have to take care of her the Gravyard Girl has changed. Eli thinks that now memphis is basicly dying. the Graveyard Girl ring the bell for each new dead soul at the semitary.Addie is much mor wealthier than Eli and Eli think that Addie is spoiled.

I think that Eli should be more nice to Addie. If i could put myself in his shoes i would try to be very kind to her, because that is someone that will remind Eli of his little sister. Eli gets to stay in a nice house. When he is there he hears a lot of voices. He decides to creep over and see what is all the noise about. It was Addie talking to someone. Addie kept on going on about how she talks to her mom every night. So when Eli goes in the room, she he knows that she is talking to her mom. I think that Addie and the graveyard girl are hiding something from Eli, and i think there is a reason why Addie's mom told her to go to the graveyard girl. I cant wait to see what happens nect in "Graveyard Girl"

I think this section is very sad and creepy because it happened in Memphis where I live right now. I am so glad that there is not Yellow fever in the United States any more. I hope that that I get to go to Elmwood cemetary not for a death but to see how many people in Memphis died of Yellow fever and were buried at Elmwood(I would look at the tombstones.)

In chapter 1 i think that it is so sad the Eli lost his mother and sister from the yellow fever, i think its sadder that his own father would leave him all by himself just to avoid seeing the death of his Daughter.in in my point of view i hink thats selfish and unfair to Eli.In chapter 2 Eli meets the graveyard girl or Grace in the graveyard and shes very sweet to Eli.In this chapter we find out how old Eli is and hes 12. Grace has been doing a man's work for 3 years in the Graveyard.Eli wanted to hate Grace but couldn't there was something about her that he couldn't hate. In the Beginning of chapter 3 Eli helped put Molly's box into her grave and Grace said a few words to GOD.Grace used to go to St. Mary's Episopal for Young Ladies and she wants to go back. He meets a 6 year old little girl named Addie and she wants to speak to Grace. She thinks that she can help her in some sort of way. In Chapter 4 Addie says that her dead mother comes in her room at night and talks to her and Eli claims that she is crazy.Eli needed a place to stay and so he stayed with Addie at her Mansion and addies father was one of the first people to catch the yellow fever.Addie said that Eli matters to her.

I do not understand why Eli is very mean to Addie. If Addie reminds him of Molly, then I think he should be nice to her. I am very glad that Eli did not steal the brooch. I didnt think that he would ever have the guts to steal from Addie and her family. I am predicting that in the end he might be able to see his mother, sister, or father. Hopefully, he will see his father again after the yellow fever is gone. I agree with Eli and do not understand why Addie's mother comes and Eli's mother doesn't. Why didn't Eli believe Addie? In the book Graveyard Girl, ELi finds a little girl named Adie who is almost a twin to his little Molly. ELi wants to get out of the deadly memphis area, but he just can't seem to leave, because of Addie. I personal think that Eli has to take care of her because he thinks of Addie like Molly. Addie has "dreams" or actual "visions" of her mother. Why doesn't Elis have his mother visit him? Maybe Elis doesnt need his mother to guide him in life. Maybe Eli doesn't believe like that. Although, i know that Eli's mom does care about him. I think ELi is still very lucky to have Molly and the graveyard girl to be there for him.

When I read chapter five, I thought that it was freaky for I ghost or a dead lady playing the piano while you were sleepung in a mansion! I would have been freaked out! Also, when I read chapter six I think that Eli should NOT steal the broach and the other goods inside of the treasure box that he had found under the only rosebush. Even though Eli says that he is heading west and is not very wealthy it does not allow him to steal or rob someone elses goods. Poor Addie!!! She has had the toughest life out of everyone and she is the most kind-hearted, sweet, adorable, and not selfish girl. It almost seems like she did not have a tough life because of how positive and upbeat her attitude is. I think that Eli should be more like her sweet and very nice!!!!

In chapters 9-11, Eli is taking Addie to the Orphan's Assylum. It doesnt really work out though because Addie finds out and she runs away. Eli went to her house, and he felt like her mother was trying to tell him where to search for her. So he went down the empty streets in search of Addie, he finally found her in a boat along the river. Eli was falling off of the river and was about to get caught in the current, but Addie saved him. They were both in the skiff traveling along the river, and finally they jumped off of on to the land. They traveled back to Memphis, and watched the town come back to life!

These last few chapters were scary yet thrilling. Addie says her mom told her not to tell anyone that she left her some stuff if she ever needed money. Addie gets mad at herself because she accidentally told Eli that the stuff her mom left her was under the rosebush. Eli went to dig it up to take some of the stuff and leave Addie. To me, that is wrong. Luckily, his dead mother "spoke" to him about what kind of person he really is. Addie got mad at herself again and hid in the boat house. I think she wanted to kill herself, but Eli came to save her out of the goodness of his heart.

This book was one of the sweetest books I have ener read! Near the end of the book, Eli trys to take Addie to St. Mary's Orphanage. Addie finds that out, so she runs away. Eli looks ALL over town, but he thinks Addie's dead mother is telling him to go by the river. He found her there, but she keeps running. Then, he goes into a old boathouse that is about to break down, but he still can't find her there. The boathouse breaks and he is holding onto a piece of the wood above the fast water, and finds Addie standing there looking at him! Eli realized that she was there the whole time, but he couldn't see her! Eli tells Addie to push a boat under him, and then for her to get away from the water. So Addie pushes the boat into the water but she jumps in it too! Addie did that because she didn't want to leave him! That's so sweet! I cried when I read that Grace died right before the fever was gone forever! I wonder why Eli didn't talk to his father, and went to live with Addie and her Aunt ELizabeth. That was such a good book and i'm glad that everyone got closer!

In the chapters 5-8, Eli found out that he has to stay with Addie. Eli does not want to do that. Addie is telling Eli that her Mother comes and talks to her in her room almost every night. Eli doesn't believe her but Graveyard Girl does. Then in the middle of the night, Eli hears 2 voices. He is shivering. He then thinks that it is his imagination. When Eli comes in, He hears Addie yelling because Eli scared her away. I think that Addie is really funny because she thinks that she can keep a secret, but.... she gave away the rosebush secret. Eli says that he needs the money and that maybe he can steal some of the jewlrey, but Addie and her saying that her mother is with her taunts him. I also think that it is realy sad that in ch. 8 we find out that Graveyard Girl is sick!!!! I wonder What addie will think. I would be shaking too if I saw a real ghost outside of my window. this book is getting better and BettER!!!!!!!!!

In chapters 5-8, a bunch of things happen. At first, while Eli was asleep at Addie's very nice house he heard two voices in Addie's room. When he went into Addie's room, Addie's mother disapeered. While Addie's mother had been there, she had told Addie there was treasure under the rosebush in the garden. While Addie was still sleeping Eli went to the backyard and dug up the tresure. He was very interested in the expensive brooch. He planned to leave Memphis and steal the brooch. He was taking it when Addie came out. Then they went to Elmwood to see Grace. Eli tried to escape form Memphis but Grace and Addie trapped him. They were all hoping that it would be an early frost this year. Addie learned how to sew from Grace. Earlier in the chapter we learned that Grace's mother died on the day she was born. She was named for the Grace of God. When Grace, Addie, and Eli were in Elmwood, Addie's mother appeared behind the tree as a spirit. Eli was speechless. Then Grace mentioned to Eli that he she was coming down with the fever. Eli then started running. This book is really sad. Everyone is coming down with the fever.

I thought chapters 5-6 were really cute. I liked how Eli went to the Carlile house and took care of Addie. Addie says that her mother, that is dead, comes to her room every night and talks about the treasure hid underneath the reosebush. Eli found jewlery and other valuables underneath the rosebush because Addie told him. He was going to steal a brooch that had colorful gems and diamonds. He was thinking what his mom would have siad. He said he was going to steal the brooch and move West because of the fever. Is yellow jack the same thing as yellow fever? Who is Sophie?

in chapters 9-11 is sad. I was really scared when the Graveyard Girl got the fever. It was sad when Eli almost lost Addie but, he found her in the skiff. I got really scared. Eli said that another two lives are about to die too because they were about to drown. Addie saved eli's life because Eli was about to drown and Addie got a rope and hung it down for Eli to climb up on and, he made it. Then Addie said that she likes him know. Then they bot in a boat and they rode back to memphis. When they returned Eli went to go check on the Graveyard Girl and see if she was feeling better. So Eli went to go to see Grace and she was really sick. Later in October the fever was over and all of the people have started work and all of that stuff. Addie saw her Aunt Elizabeth and she came from a train and said to Eli that he was part of his family!

I was so happy to find out that Eli was not going to take the brooch, and that he was treating Sophie better. Eli did not make the right choice by taking the brooch, but then he fixed it. I also thought that it was sad that Eli did not beilive Sophie, and that her mother was talking to her at night. Then Eli opened up and told the truth about why he did not like Sophie talking about or to her mother. Eli did not understand why Sophie's mom would talk to her, but his wouldn't to him. I thought that that was really sad. I was really shocked when Grace got the yellow fever, or jack, because I thought that the place would tern into a trainwreck. I was also really suprised when Eli ofered to help, I never thought that he would do that. On chapters 5-8 I thought that over all it was sad, but I was glad that Eli made some better choices to help him in the future to be a better person!

In the book Graveyard Girl chapters 5-8 were very detirmining. Eli was staying with Addie at her house according to the lost of her parents too. Addie insists to tell Eli that her mother comes in her room at night and giver her directions since she is the only one left in her family. Eli refuses to belive Addie. Eli said to himself, my mother would come on my room if anyone could returm from the dead. One night Eli was in beed he awakened from the sound of something coming from Addie's room. He forces himself out of bed to see who it could be. Walking into Addie's room he happens to get a quick glance of Addie's mother. Time went fast and Eli had scared away addie's mother. The morning had arrived and Addie was depresed that her mother had been scared away by Eli. This book I hope continues to have more secrets. I enjoy wainting for the next surprise to be next.

Hey, Girls! I'm loving reading your comments! Several of you have questions and thoughts I'd like to respond to. Rachel, I agree about hating to read about death so much. Think about what the book teaches you about Memphis. It was indeed a very, very sad time for our city! What do you think the city was like? Two facts about yellow fever will help several of you: it is only carried from one person to another by a mosquito bite. The mosquito must bite the infected person and then bite the healthy person. Fact #2--The person who has yellow fever has high fever, then the fever goes down; if the fever comes back again the person usually dies. That's why Thomas was so sure (sadly) that Molly would die. How thankful we can be that spraying for mosquitoes keeps them away and that there is a vaccine that will keep us from getting yellow fever if we go to the places it still exists! Keep writing girls!!!

Ch.5-8

Eli heard Addie talking to her mother during the first night he has slept there. Eli does not like to hear about Addie’s mother. When Eli walks into Addie’s room Addie gets upset because he scared off her mother. While Addie is having a tantrum she spills a secret about the treasure. Addie’s mother told her were the treasure was and when Addie spilled Eli did not think much of it. The next morning Eli decided to just look at the treasure witch turned into borrowing a broach. He heard his mothers voice and ended up not taking the broach but did make a plan to run when Addie and Grace weren’t looking and come back and take the broach then head west. Eli thought about this more and more and ended up staying. When Addie and Eli return to Elmwood Cemetery Grace mentions she saw a kitten out side. Eli notices Grace looks tiered and suggests that she take a nap while Eli helps Addie find the kitten. Addie plays with the kitten on the bench near Eli. Eli lies in the spot between the two graves. As Grace comes out Eli notices something strange. When Eli looks back he sees Addie’s mother. Eli gets mad about how his mother never visits him and tries to run away. When he looks at Grace for the fist time since she laid down he notices she looks worse. Grace explains that she is getting the fever and that Eli needs to stay with Addie. Eli is not in a good mood and does not like this idea.

I think that it's so cool that Molly is a playacting. It is so wonderful that she would use her dolly,Janie. Eli said that Molly would stay up for hours. How she pretended to arguing and begging on how her and janie, the doll, talked.Eli had also said that Addie was just like Molly how he said that Addie was just playacting when she saw her mother in her house.

In the ch. 9-11 in Graveyard GIrl, ELi decides if he needs another sister. When i first read about Eli he seemed like the perfect brother, no fights, love, and hope. When Addie asks ELi to be her brother, i couldnt bare to read that he would say no. Addie had saved ELi's live, and that was so sweet, and just what a sister would do to her big brother. As Addie got in the boat ELis said no, but i think Addie knew best, and her mother might have said what to do. Also, when Grace is sick, Eli asks her one question, "How do i get my mother to come speak to me?" I thought that was the sweetest thing when Grace said, "SHe's always with you." I know thats the truth. WHen my dog died all i did was think of him. In this book i learned how to believe, and when you miss somebody, who past away, they are always with you.

In the chapters 5-8 Eli does not believe that Addie can see her mom. He has senn her mom and herd her voice. He just still does not believe. Then when Addie's mom told her she could dig up the treasure under the rose bush, Eli dug it up. He found this beutiful brooch. He wanted to take it, but his mom kept poping up in his mind saying do not be a thief. He did not take it. Then the Graveyard Girl told Eli that she thought she had a fever. Then Eli ran and said he could not see her die. He is still really sad about his family members deaths.

chapters 4-8- I thought this part of the book was sad. I did not like it when Eli was so mean and ugly to Addie. He should of believed or just went along with the fact that Addie talks to her dead mother. I also thought it was awful of him to even think about stealing Addie's mothers broach. Over all, I thought this part of the book was interesting.

When I was reading the book Grveyard Girl it was really instresting reading about Memphis' past. I read some stuff about St. Marry's too and how they helped take care of orphans. It was really neet because my cousin, Meghean did a play on how St. Marry's and when I was reading about St. Marry's I could really connect. I liked when Eli packed his stuff for when he was leaving and one of the things he packed was his bible which i thought was good.

When i was reading Graveyard girl I was so mad that Eli was being so mean to the little girl, Addie. She seams so sweet and is normally happy. When Eli said her mom wasn't really comming in her romm and talking to her i got mad and the saddest things was Addie told Grace that she liked Eli and asked why Eli did not like her. Eli was being rude to Addie even when Addie liked Eli. I really liked the part when she was holding Eli's hand and Eli did not let go.
the book is good an i can not wait to find out what happens.

It is so sad when grace dies. I hate reading about death and yellow fever in Memphis. It was sad when Eli took Addie to the Orphan Assylum. When she found out she ran away. Why? Addie got mad at herself again and hid in the boat house. I think she wanted to kill herself, but Eli came to save her out of the goodness of his heart.
Eli searched for her and found her in a boat along the river. I thought it was really scary when Eli fell into the river and almost got caught in the cuurrent. I thought it was so sweet when Addie saved him. When they were both traveling with eachother in the skiff they decided to go back to Memphis. I thought it was a great ending as they watched Memphis come back to life.

I nearly cried when I heard that Grace died.

In chapter 5-8, Eli is remembering a lot of memories and good times with his family! Eli doesn't like to hear Addie talk to Grace about talking to her mom in the night. ELi sees a rosebush in Addie's backyard, and finds all of this pretty jewelry. I think when Eli and Addie got up in the morning, that Grace is being very kind to them. She fixes them breakfast every morning, even though she has other work to do. Eli decides to run to the chapel and hides and falls asleep for a very long time. When he comes out he sees the graveyard girl and Addie standing by the window waiting for him. i think that Grace and Addie really do care about him! I also think that it is sad and happy, that Grace's dad names Grace because of when her mother had her. Grace is the perfect name for Grace. I do not think Eli should run away from Grace and Addie, just because Grace says she might have the fever. Grace needs him!

Also, why didn't the graveyard girl get the fever earlier, when everyone else had it??? Anyway, I thought that this book was really good! I absoulutely love this book!!!

Just when I started to get used to the book, GRAVEYARD GIRL, by Anna Myers, she decides to throw in ghosts. Not spooky ghosts or ghosts in television shows like The Haunting. The ghost seems real. The ghost is real. The ghost is Addie Carlile's late mother. When Eli stays the night in the Carlile Mansion, he hears strange sounds. He hears Addie speaking to someone- and he hears someone speaking back. He goes into Addie’s room and he only sees her, sitting on the edge of her bed. I don’t like how she decided to put ghosts into this book, but I am still enjoying it.

Finally Eli has realized that it is his job to take care of Addie and Grace. After she dies, he takes care of Elmwood Cemetery. Like Grace, the Graveyard Girl, said, “You need to work. Stay here and work. Work leaves no time for anger.” After Grace died, Eli had a duty to Addie, Grace, his family, and himself. I am very proud of Eli for what he is accomplishing. With all of his hard effort he was rewarded. When Addie’s aunt comes, Eli is taken care of like a normal boy his age and he goes to school. The fever is gone and one day he will reunited with his father.

In the book Graveyard Girl chapters 9-11 were sad, but interesting. Addie and Eli's friendship is getting worse. Eli is so stressed that he is hiding from her in the church with dead people in coffins. Everything was starting to go better until they heard the news that Grace had the fever. Eli adn Addie go to talk to her and Grace tells Eli that his mother will always be with him in his heart. Addie made a move and got Eli back by hiding from him according to Eli's idea to give Addie to the orphange. Eli finally found Addie and he had to jump in the river to save him. Eli and Addie's life was at risk, but they worked as a team to keep each other alive. Addie amd Eli heard the news, Grace had died and Eli and Addie would always think about her when they heard the bell.

In the book Graveyard Girl chapters 9-11 when Eli found out Grace was sick he ran out off the cemetery. When he stopped he closed his eyes. When he opened them back up, Addie was standing there. He first did not like her following him. Then he liked it because he had a plan. He got in a wagon and told the man to go to St. Mary’s orphan asylum. When they stopped close to the place the man said St. Mary’s orphan asylum was just a little way down. Addie herd him say that and got really upset. She ran and hid. Eli new she was behind the tree. He looked away to say thank you to the man and when he looked back she was gone. He looked and looked. He had help from McLemore. They looked and looked. Eli thought if he went back to his old home to see his moms stuff maybe he would get the answer. When he went back there was a mother and a son living there. The son was wearing Eli’s shirt. The mother said they were sorry and they would leave. Eli told them stay and told her son he could keep the shirt. They were so happy. Then he talked to the mother and she told him that his mother would tell him to do what was right. Then he went to the river thinking Addie might be there. He found her and she ran into a boat shed. Eli went in to get her and the shed fell. He was holding on trying not to fall in. He told Addie to get in the boat to get him. She did and he dropped. He was safe. Then they went down the river and got off. They went back to the cemetery. Grace had yellow fever. She was sick. Eli told her he would ring the bell for and he did. He rang the bell for her when she died. Then when Memphis was growing again and people came back. Eli’s dad came back. Eli said he would go up to him one day and fish with him again. I wonder what will happen next.

When Eli was asleep at Addie's very nice house, he heard two voices in Addie's room. When he went into Addie's room, Addie's mother left. While Addie's mother was in her room, she told Addie there was treasure under the rosebush in the garden if she needed any money. While Addie was still sleeping, Eli went to the backyard and dug up the tresure. He liked the treasure very much, but it was very expensive. He planned to leave Memphis and steal the brooch that he found. He was taking the brooch when Addie came outside. Then they went to Elmwood to see Grace. Eli tried to run away form Memphis but Grace and Addie trapped him. They were hoping that it would be a frost this year. Addie learned how to sew from Grace. Before, we learned that Grace's mother died on the day Grace was born. She was named Grace for the Grace of God. When Grace, Addie, and Eli were in Elmwood, Addie's mother appeared behind the tree as a spirit. Eli wasn't able to talk! Then, Grace mentioned to Eli that he she was coming down with yellow fever. Then, Eli started running. This is a really sad book. Everyone is coming down with yellow fever! I hope they get better!

He finally finds Addie, and they head to Elmwood. When they reach there the cemetary, Grace isnt rining the bell, she is in bed. She is very sick with the fever. Grace ends up dying. Now Eli has to take care of Addie and Elmwood Cemetery. Addie hid from Eli near the hills. Eli heard some voices telling him Addie was there. Eli's father had came back and later they can go fishing like they used to. Addie's and Eli's friendship became worse.

Eli doesn't like taking care of Addie so he plans on leaving her with Grace (Graveyard Girl) and sneaking out. Eli is all alone until he arrives at Elmwood Cemetery and meets the graveyard girl who is about his age, Grace. The only family member that Grace has is her father, who is suffering from yellow fever along with most of the Memphians that are still alive. Soon Eli meets a young girl named Addie Carlile who came to the cemetery looking for help. Alas for Eli Addie reminds him of his sister, Molly. To make matters worse, Addie claims that her mother talks to her at night, her dead mother.

After a relaxing bath, Eli settles down for the night in the luxurious bed in the Carlile house. About midway through the night Eli heard two voices in Addie's room. As soon as he opened the door Addie went belistic and was screaming at him for making her mother leave. The only information that Eli was able to get was that there was a treasure buried under the rosebush outside. The next morning Eli woke up early and decided to use his free time to dig up the treasure that Addie had talked about. He found the treasure, but by this time Addie had woken up so he did what he knew his mother would want him to do and he buried the treasure back. A lot happened later that day, but the main thing is that Eli decides to stay with Addie, just like Addie's mom said he would. Eli stays with Addie another night but the next day Eli's temper got the best of him and he left. He didn't want to hear Addie talk about her dead mother and he definitely didn’t want to see Grace die, for she had gotten the yellow fever.

After walking a few blocks, Eli realizes that Addie is following him. He agrees to let Addie come along, but he has a secret plan to take Addie to the orphan asylum. Eli sees a driver so they take a ride. Eli's plan was working until the driver announced that they were almost to the asylum. Addie ran away and Eli couldn’t find her. After searching many places, including his old home, Eli heard a voice in his head saying Addie was at Pinchgut, an area by the river. Eli couldn't seem to find her there, but he kept looking. He was checking to see if she was shed on the dock carefully, fearing that he may fall through to the river. Then the dock broke and Eli, not being able to swim, held on for dear life. Addie came out from her hiding place, under the skiff, and following Eli’s orders, she pushed a boat down the river. Well, almost following Eli’s orders, she hopped in the boat too. This didn’t make Eli very happy but there wasn’t anything he could do about it at the moment. When the boat reached Eli he let go and jumped in; or at least tried to. Eli grabbed Addie and she was able to get Eli in the boat. After floating downstream for a while, they eventually were able to jump on to the bank and walked back to the cemetery the next morning. When they arrived at the cemetery no one was ringing the bell. Just before Grace died she explained to Eli why his mother never actually talked to him like Addie’s. The truth was that Eli’s ma did talk to him; Eli always knew what his ma would want him to do therefore she was talking to him. Just like he did the right thing by staying with Addie and becoming part of her family.

When I read chapters 9-11, I thought that it was sad when Eli was going to take Addie to the orphanage. Addie at all didn't want to go to the orphanage because Addie knew that her Aunt Elizabeth was going to come. So, Addie ran away. Eli was going everywhere to try and find Addie. Eli went to look for her in her house. She was nowhere to be found. Eli felt a strong feeling to go in Addie's mother's room.He didn't know why, but he then felt a stronger feeling to go look in Pinchgut. When Eli was visiting his old house, he saw some people in it. They were living in the street so, they came in and stayed there. Eli was nice enough to let them stay. Eli went down by the river. He found her in a stiff. Both Addie and Eli were about to drown, and i don't think that both of them didn't know how to swim very well. Addie saved Eli's life by throwing a rope out and pulling him in. Eli and Addie were on a boat and heading back to memphis. When Eli visited the Graveyard girl, she was really sick. She asked Eli to take care of Elmwood Cemitary for her. At that point Eli knew that there wasn't going to be a lot of life left in her.

.....Later on the fever ended, Addie saw her aunt, Eli's dad came home, and the GRAVEYARD GIRL had passed away. I really enjoyed this book!!!!!

In chapters 9-11, it was a long journey for Eli. For a long time, he couldn't find little Addie. I was so sad for him, because she was running away from him. Eli didn't care about Addie, but when he can't find her, he relizes he should be nice and care about her. When Eli found Addie running on big hills, i was relieved and happy! Eli figures out a way to get back to the graveyard. When he gets there, he has a few questions for the graveyard girl. He asks her why his mother doesn't visit him. I think it is sweet that Eli's mom talks to Eli in his head. I was SOOO sad when Grace dies. Of all people, she, one of the nicest girls ever, dies.

I thought these chapters were intense. A few things were Grace had yellow fever and died and also that Addie and Eli almost drowned. Eli had also lost Addie and had to find her. He found her next to a boathouse by the river, Pinchgut. That is where Addie's father used to work. That is when they almost drowned. It was very sad when Eli and Molly found out that Grace had yellow fever. How did she get yellow fever? I thought she was acclimated. It was very sad also when Eli has to ring the bell when Grace is sick and when she is dying. Well, I thought this book was interesting to learn what had happened at that time in Memphis. From learning about this, I would like to go see Elmwood Cemetery.

I thought the last section of Graveyard Girl was the best. When
Eli realized his mom was with him the whole time I thought that was really sweet. When Grace died I thought that was the todal opisite of sweet though. It freaked me out when Addie ran away. I never thought Eli would fine her. I thought it was nice for Grace's worker to help Eli look for Addie. One I thing I don't understand is how all the workers for Grace have to please her. I guessed the workers just want to make me happy.

I really loved the book Graveyard Girl, but the last three chapters were very sad. For example, when Grace, the Graveyard girl, died I almost cried to death because is was so sad. I do think that Grace should not have died becuase of the yellow jack. I wish that the yellow jack never exsisted. It made me happy when Eli fell into the water and Addie caught him. I thought it should've been turned around the other way.

I thought this book was soooooo sad. I also thought it was sweet how Aunt Elizabeth let Eli stay with them in Charleston. Eli was still able to here Grace after she died. This book is ver touching. Addie shouldn't of gotten in the book. To me it seemed like her getting in the book just caused them way more trouble

Ok, in chapters 5-8 a lots of things happened. Figured out Addie is only six and Eli still hasn’t left. Even though he almost steals Addie’s mother brooch he still lives in Addie’s house. Now Eli has more feelings for other people like Addie.I hope Grace doesn't die from the fever ,she's so nice!!!!

When I was reading I felt bad for Eli because he met this lady that said you'll do what your mother would know that is right. He was probably upset thinking about his mom and sister. Eli was praying that the graveyard girl wouldn't die because she was almost like a sister to him and he didn't want to loose her, he needed her. He really didn't want to have to take care of Addie without her. Eli wondered if he should turn back, and something disturbed him. The water had risen considerably, and he said there must have been heavy rain in Memphis. He knew Addie was near the water, then he saw her and started yelling "Addie", "Addie". When he got to her she told Eli that he's not her friend anymore. Eli said that he was sorry about the orphans' asylum and said he would stay with her. Addie was in a boat house, and Eli kept on asking her to open up because she locked herself in the boat house. In chapter 11 Eli said that he will stay with Addie atleast until her aunt comes. Eli went to Graces room he saw nurse tyler and asked if he could come in. He moved aroung nurse tyler to see grace. Her skin was yellow, and her eyes were grey and watery. She had the yellow fever. Grace said that Addies mother helped her find Addie. Eli rand the bell when Grace died, and then he started to cry. Eli said that whenever he heard the bell it would remind him of Graveyard Girl.

In the book GraveYard Girl i thought it was sad because Grace was ding and he had no time for other people becaus ehe was heading west. He didn't wan't to leave Addie just any where. He always made sure that addie had a roof above her head though. When he sunk away to head west he didn't know that addie was following him till he stopped. She finally came up and said that grace was ding even though he already knew. When he saw a wagon coming down the road he asked them if he could get a ride. When they said yes he grabed addie and they were off. When he was almost there the ridder screamed and said were they were and addie was upset. Whent they got off she hid behind a tree and then went away and he didnt find her. Thats what i read so far.

Eli was running west as he had planed to do, when he noticed Addie had followed him. Addie and Eli rode to the orphan’s asylum without Addie knowing. When they arrived the driver slipped out were they were going and Addie just looked down. The second Eli looked away from Addie she disappeared. Eli couldn’t find Addie any were. He rode with McLemore to find Addie. They first looked for her at her house. When they were about to leave Addie’s house Eli had a strong feeling were Addie might be. He told McLemore that he felt Addie was at Pinchgut. They looked all around her father’s old ware house. There was no place a little girl could get in the locked up ware house. McLemore had to go and Eli stayed behind. He went to his old house and could tell some one had been there. There was a small family living there and Eli wanted them to stay. Eli went back to the river. He heard some one say that Addie was at the river. He went in boathouse looking for Addie, when it collapsed. Addie appeared at the skiff screaming. Eli told Addie to get the boat and push it to him. Eli noticed Addie jumped into the boat and did not like this idea. Eli couldn’t jump to the boat but Addie threw him a rope. They rocked to shore. When Eli and Addie returned to Elmwood they both noticed that the fever sign was on the cabin door, Grace was sick. Eli talked to Grace for a while. Grace died and Eli and Addie were sad about it but they turned out okay. Addie’s Aunt Elizabeth came and treated Eli like family, because he was family now.

The last few chapters are so sad. Like when Eli lost Addie. When he found her he almost fell in the Mississippi River. Then Addie was the one that saves him. Then Grace dies. I was mostly crying at this part because it’s so sad. Eli was the one to help ring the bell but he always had to ring it because she died. At least Eli has a huge mansion to live in with Addie. Now his life is a lot better except when Grace dies.

I been wondering how molly would be if was still alive. Would she have a broken heart, or would she be happy that she was alive. I thought it was very sad for molly to die.

I love that finally Eli started liking Addie. I never thought it would happen. When Grace died I got all choked up, she was a great person. I loved this book. Close to the beginning when Eli thought Grace was sassy and then said I like sassy girls I thought the would fall in love or something.

saneela tameez 2-G-12 said...

I thought the ending of the book was sweet, sad, and mysterious. I think the sweet part of the book was that Eli said that he would ring the bell for Graveyard Girl. The sad part was that Graveyard Girl died. The mysterious part that Eli saw man that looked like his dad.

I thought that the book grave yard girl was sad because a lot of people die from yellow fever, in Memphis. I think that it would be cool to go see the Elmwood cemetery after reading this book and finding out about Memphis history. On chapters 9-11 Eli lost Addie because he told her that she would go to the orphanage. I loved reading this book!

I cannot believe that Eli thougt she wuold be in there. I got so scared when the boat house fell and I can't believe that Eli was even able to grab that post. I am so thankful that Addie was able to push the boat out. I am so glad that Addie was in the boat to save him when he fell in the water. That was very smart of Addie to throw the rope out to him. How did Addie pull him over the side?

The book was overall sad-- especially the ending. I hate that Grace dies, it's so sad... I think Eli kind of liked her. But Addie's family took Eli in, which is good. I can't believe that Eli started seeing his family's ghosts!

I thought, in chapters 5-8, it was very good because he got to go to Addie's house to stay. Addie's mother (dead) came during the night and Eli didn't know! He thought it was a robber of something! Addie told Eli about the treasure under the rosebush. Eli decided to dig under and steel something. Eli said he was going to leave Addie to go west away from the fever. His mother and sister had died and his dad is gone! Boo Hoo!

In chapters 9-11, Eli finds out that Grace has the fever. Addie ran away when she found out that Eli ws going to put her in an orphanage. Eli couldnt find her and he had looked all around Memphis. He searched in a boat house by a river and found her. Eli fell and landed in a boat and Addie went with him. They traveled and finally stopped. they went back to Memphis and Grace had died and Eli's dad came back!

In chapters 5-8 i think its terrible that eli was thinking and almost did take the brooch from addie. In these chapters we figure out that Grace is sick and that she just might have the Yellow Fever. It's really scary for some people because people rely on her to do some jobs.

In chapters 9-11 i think that its sad that eli lost Addie, my thoughts were hes going find her dead but it turnes out she was ok. the reason she ran away was because Eli was going to take her to an orphanage which i thought was really cruel. It broke my heart that Grace died from the Yellow Fever. Addies aunt finally came and let eli stay with them. Addie got mad at eli and hid in the boat house at this point i really thought she was going to die but eli saved her which made me really happy. this book is amazing.

In chapters 9-11 Eli trys to put her ion St. Mary's asslyum and then she runs away. He can't find her until some voice said look near the river. He finds her and risks his life then promises to take care of her and they go with her aunt from South Carolina. Also, Graveyard girl dies from yellow fever.

In chapters 5-8,
Eli was ABOUT to steal the brooch, but he could JUST HEAR his mother inside his mind telling him not to... so he does not... he also doesn't steal the brooch because ADDIE was coming down and was about to see him so he threw it back in the box and acted normal. THAT was my favorite part in the chapter because it was SO interesting. After taking a bath and getting in to bed he hears Addie talking to someone. When he walks into Addie's room and Addie gets really mad at him. Later he still doesn't believe that Addie talks to her mom! This section was MY favorite...(5-8)!!!!!!!!
